An Introduction to Android

Android is an emerging linux based operating system for mobile phones.Android operating system is used in smart phones, tablets and PDA.  Most of the people who are going to buy a mobile phone has their first choice as android phone. Before android operating system symbian, bada, windows phone,…etc are the only hope for customer.



Initially android OS is developed by Open Handset Alliance. Google owns the license of android in 2005 and made it as open source. Google uses the android operating system in its own mobile product. Google nexus is the latest mobile from google with android, this mobile has incorporated with some mobile hardware companies. We can experience the full android OS in google nexus.

Here is the series of android version releases are given with their release date. In Every release the minor and major bug are fixed, some versions are released in 5-6 days to their previous version release. Latest Version used in all mobile phones are

  • Android Gingerbird
  • Android Honeycomb
  • Android Ice cream Sandwich


Android Application

Android applications(simply called as apps) are available in android websites called android market. Over 3,00,000 apps are available for android devices. Android applications are created in java programming language for android devices. More number of android app development tools are being created. Mostly used tool for android application development is Eclipse.


Android Features

Android uses SQLite database. It has touch screen, pressure sensors, sliders,…etc. Important think is we can capture screenshot on our android device. It supports java programing language and almost all video formats.  As like other mobiles it supports all languages, video calling, GSM, 3g, connectivity.
